And so it goes. It is March 9th, the first official day after losing an hour of sleep and - wait check that. I lost about 3 hours of sleep: one for "springing forward" for day-light savings, and the other two for the amount of sleep lost while worrying about my first day in Room 20. And then there was - SNOW! For the love of butter if I could pay the snow gods to go on a vacation I would. I am done. Nothing gets a classroom of students more fired up than the fact that there is snow on the ground and all of the "what-ifs" that goes along with it.
I would compare my day to that of a salad spinner. A whole lot of things going into the bowl while being stirred to get all of the excess water out. Only, I would replace the water with energy and disdain from the students as they subconsciously pushed at buttons to see if they could get a rise out of me. Ha-ha. All said and done, I think that by the end of the day they knew that my business there is to teach and their business there is to learn. Transaction completed. Hopefully they will remember this tomorrow.
So here's to a good first day on a cold, mushy Monday and a request for some silky, steaming hot chocolate with whip to keep warm.
And for all of you baseball lovers out there - West Salem Little League is going at it hard core with teams throwing ball in less than warm temperatures with flakes of wetness creating red and raw little faces and hands. Pray for SUN! Our boys need it!
